ABOUT ME
Hello and welcome to
I am Juliane and I will be guiding you on your way to conquer the challenges you face. Hopefully with my help you will be able to unlock your full potential and find true happiness.
I want you to get to know me a bit and the reasons why I founded FlourishHer.
I grew up in a well sheltered family in the north of Germany. As a child I always knew that I wanted to work with people and help them in some sort of way. I’ve always been involved in sports and my interest in medicine grew because my mom works as a nurse, hence a career as a physiotherapist was the obvious profession to choose. As I wanted to be educated in the English language, I went to the Netherlands to study physiotherapy in an international program. After graduating in 2012 I desired to continue enjoying life outside of Germany and therefore went to work in Doha, Qatar. Eventually, love and new work challenges brought me to Dubai where I am still living at this moment.
I continued working in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and sports for many years, finishing my Masters in Sports Physiotherapy in 2020. But the world of sports isn’t an easy one especially as a women, therefore I looked for ways to combine my passion for sports with some other field in physiotherapy. I did a few course for paediatric physiotherapy but did not come to fulfilment.
While working in different kinds of clinics I came across women’s health physiotherapists and I was curious what this very special field of physiotherapy has to offer. To be honest I did not know much about it. During my undergraduate training I did not receive any kind of education besides mentioning the pelvic floor as part of the human body. So this field of physiotherapy was completely new for me. I started to do courses, first online as during Covid times there were no in-person courses going on but bit by bit there was some more practice going on. I felt like a first year student again as all the information was new to me. But I wanted to take on this challenge, as I will never forget what one of my fellow colleagues once said:
“This is the most rewarding field of physiotherapy I ever worked in. You can make a real big change in the life of a patient.”
And this is absolutely true, women by any means deserve to be heard and helped. Women face very unique challenges that no man will ever fully understand and empathize with.
The world does not pay attention to the difference in men and women. Medical tests are mostly done in male populations, sports- and exercise studies partially fail to distinguish between sexes, just to give a few examples. Overall there is more attention given to the male population than the female even though females play the bigger part in the physical aspect of reproduction – meaning carrying a baby and giving birth. Women not only hormonally face the many differences and challenges at all stages of life but especially during and after pregnancy their bodies change a lot. Furthermore, the menopause period introduces again a variety of new physical and mental experiences. Finally it is time to acknowledge this now and make everybody aware so that women can be understood and cared for in the right way. We need to put the attention to better serve the female population to have happier mums, wife, daughters and granddaughters.
Therefore I wanted to create a platform for women to speak up about their problems. It will affect us all at some point – and not just you ladies, also your partners as they will have to deal with your mood swings and eventual complexes of a changing body. It should not be a taboo topic anymore to talk about leaking urine, having pain during intercourse, feeling dry down under and having tummies that may look as if you are still pregnant. Ladies usually hear this is all ‘normal’… yes, it is natural that these changes are happening but it is not normal that they are not addressed and improved. Because there is always a way to enhance function at any age. But if we are not aware of this help we will not seek it.
In addition to the physical aspects of women’s health, the mental elements, influenced by hormones, should also be taken into consideration. Therefore, I keep trying to improve my service and started to do another aspect of coaching for women. This type of coaching called therapeutic coaching focusses more in the mental aspect rather than the physical. But we know that all is intertwined. Read more about the different subspecialties that I offer in the individual sections.
Coming to an end I want to say, working with women is not just a professional task, but a profound privilege that continually inspires and motivates me. I want to accompany you on your road to recovery or into a happier life with all my knowledge and empathy.
Yours Juliane
